About Nepean Ratepayers

Established in 1976, the Nepean Ratepayers Association Inc (originally known as The Collins Riding Ratepayers Association) is a local group with more than 40 years input in local issues within the Nepean Ward (Blairgowrie, Portsea and Sorrento). Since the redistribution of the Ward area the Association now includes Rye and Tootgarook.

The Association has close consultation with the Nepean Conservation Group (www.nepeanconservationgroup.org.au), Nepean Historical Society (www.nepeanhistoricalsociety.asn.au), Blairgowrie Community Action GroupRye Alliance and Sorrento Portsea Chamber of Commerce on important issues such as local planning problems, inappropriate developments, management of foreshores and recreation reserves and facilities, traffic management, events and other relevant community matters.

The Association's Committee meets at the Sorrento Community Centre monthly. The AGM is held in May at venues within the Nepean Ward with guest speakers whose topics are relevant to local community interests.

The Purposes of the Association are:

1. To champion the interests of Ratepayers and Residents of the Nepean Ward on issues affecting their way of life.

2  To safeguard and promote enhancement of the natural environment, residential amenity and recreational assets of the Ward.

3  To challenge any proposed inappropriate development

4. To ensure the needs of visitors are recognised.

5  To support for election to Council candidates whose views are consistent with those of the Association.

The four main sub-committees of the NRA are:

Blairgowrie Village
Portsea Village
Rye Township
Sorrento Township

We strongly encourage you to become involved with the group in your area.
